iPhone surge hikes Mobile Fun sales
The domination of Apple's iPhone in the mobile phone market has boosted sales at Birmingham-based phone accessories supplier Mobile Fun, Insider has been told. The company's head of international sales, Richard Moore, said Mobile Fun reports a "revenue spike" whenever a new version of the handset is released.
Moore said that instead of isolating a large part of the phone accessories market, the iPhone's success had helped boost turnover at the company.
"We definitely see a spike in sales whenever a new version comes out – we always prepare for it so that we have new accessories and gadgets that people will want to purchase for their new phone.
"If people know they'll be keeping their phones for the next couple of years, they want to invest in some decent cases or hands-free sets for example."
Revenue grew £2m over year to 31 March 2011, hitting £9.2m. Profit increased from £384,133 in 2009/10 to £898,814 in 2010/11.
Moore said he thought the website's concept could work in any country.
"There's no country we won't be targeting for expansion," he said. "Some products need to be altered slightly to fit the market – perhaps the name or model will need changing – but it's a very transferable business."
Mobile Fun, which offers a rage of 8,000 accessories, recently launched websites in Spain and the Netherlands bringing its total number of online operations to five.
We have had great success with our UK, German and French websites," said Moore.
"Our French website was launched in July 2010 and has exceeded initial sales targets, receiving more than 40,000 orders in the first year of trading. As a whole, international sales currently account for 25 per cent of Mobile Fun orders and, as this percentage is increasing, our new websites will help to further promote our brand overseas."
The company, which was established ten years ago, currently ships to more than 50 countries across the world from its Birmingham base.
