Construction frameworks on the rise, says WMCF boss

The West Midlands' construction sector looks set to benefit from an increased number of framework agreements being established, Insider has been told.

Andrew Peasgood, manager of the West Midlands Contractor Framework (WMCF), said he expected to see a boost in the number of framework opportunities being made available in the coming years.

WMCF was established last October to help reduce the cost and complexity of public sector construction procurement in the West Midlands.

Operated centrally by Worcestershire County Council, the framework partners are Speller Metcalfe, Thomas Vale Construction and Kier Moss.

The companies work with a range of local authority agencies including Hereford Council and West Mercia Policy Authority.

"There are definitely benefits to these agreements," said Peasgood. "There's the potential to save a lot of time and money on procurement processes over time, meaning better relationships between the client and company and fewer delays.

"We've seen a lot of construction companies struggling to find work over the past few months – the industry is still very difficult. Frameworks like these allow companies to plan with greater certainly as they know the workload is coming in."
