Paul Cummins Ceramics takes on Olympic contract

A Derby-based ceramic artist has been commissioned to create up to 10,000 flowers for the Cultural Olympics 2012.

Paul Cummins Ceramics will create an English flower garden made up of up the hand-crafted ceramic flowers for the summer event.

Cummins said his ceramics business is preparing to move into Friar Gate Studios in the city after receiving its largest order to date.

Having established the business in 2009, Cummins has dispatched his pieces to clients in America, Ireland and Australia.

He specialises in creating distinctive landscape installations and traditional pancheons, which feature exuberant flower glazes.

Cummins said: "I am delighted to have joined the creative community at Friar Gate Studios. Receiving the commission to work on the project for the 2012 Cultural Olympics was the catalyst we needed to make the move to the studios."
