Zytek to create powertrain centre with RGF boost

Lichfield-based manufacturer Zytek has been awarded £1.35m from the second round of Regional Growth Fund (RGF) investment, Insider has been told.

The clean vehicle technology specialist Zytek said it would use the cash boost to develop an Electric Powertrain Technologies Centre.

Based at the company's technical centre in Lichfield, the new facility will support an initial 44 jobs developing low carbon technologies for the automotive industry.

A further £3.65m will be invested by Zytek, the company confirmed, which brings the total amount to £5m.

Zytek's was one of 20 West Midlands bids to receive RGF funding in the second investment round. The government estimated that up to 3,900 direct jobs and 29,800 indirect jobs could be created with the 20 successful bids, bringing in £100m to the local economy.

Other success stories came from Rocester's JCB, which obtained funding for what a spokesperson confirmed would be used "to assist in the development of new engine technology."

Stoke-on-Trent-based Steelite secured funding which it said will create 200 jobs, The tabletop product supplier will use the funding to develop a new manufacturing facility producing bone China in the UK.
