Npower lands £2m fine
Energy giant Npower has been fined £2m after being found guilty of mishandling customer complaints.
The Worcestershire-based company was handed the fine by watchdog Ofgem, which concluded that the company had not recorded complaints effectively.
It covered the period between 1 October 2008 and 4 July 2011, during which Npower was said to have breached three regulations.
Ofgem said the investigation was begun after the results of a survey last year found that consumers thought many suppliers failed to keep an accurate record of complaints.
The watchdog added that Npower had provided an action plan and other remedial actions in relation since the investigation took place.
Npower is yet to comment on the result.
The energy company, one of the UK's 'big six', provides gas and electricity to nearly seven million homes. It generates 8 per cent of the UK’s electricity and employs 11,000 staff.
