Castle Hill scheme gets £10m investment
Dudley's Castle Hill regeneration scheme has received a £10.1m boost. The cash injection was secured from four different sources.
The scheme will involve major refurbishment to the 200-hectare (494 acres) site which is currently home to Dudley Zoological Gardens, the Black Country Living Museum and Dudley Canal Trust.
Once the project has been completed, the site will have a shared arrival point for visitors to the three attractions, a new archive building and visitor hub.
It has been supported by more than £4.5m from the European Regional Development Fund and matched by Dudley Council, the Heritage Lottery Fund and Dudley Zoological Gardens.
This latest phase forms part of a bigger £46m redevelopment programme set for the Castle Hill site in Dudley town centre.
Les Jones, leader of Dudley Council, said: "The development of Castle Hill is a key attraction not only for Dudley but for the whole region. This scheme has the scope to increase visitor numbers to the site from around 600,000 to one million people a year and the project is a major aspect of our current regeneration programme for the whole of the Dudley borough."
