Newman Park plant rises from the ashes
A fire-damaged recycling plant in Wednesbury has reopened following a £1.2m refurbishment.
The 16,145 sq ft unit on Newman Park, Western Way, had been used as a waste recycling plant before a fire in 2010 left the building beyond repair.
Landlord Spire Midlands has invested £1.2m into revamping the building, which has reopened as a warehouse.
Spire Midlands instructed CBRE’s building consultancy team to project manage a programme of decontamination works and asbestos removal prior to demolishing and rebuilding the unit.
Mike Sutton of CBRE said: "The intensity of the fire and the extent of damage to the units at Newman Park was such that the building needed to be totally demolished, including the floor slab and foundations and rebuilt.
"Our work involved managing the site works and liaising with environmental consultants, the environment agency, along with the health and safety executive and legal advisors. The end result is a modern, industrial warehouse that has been constructed to a high standard."
