Pelican swoops for £42m Brum food contract
A £42m supply chain contract has been awarded by Birmingham City Council to Surrey-based Pelican Buying Company.
Procurement company Pelican has won the three-year deal to manage the local authority's supply of food. It will purchase and manage products, tendering, contract mobilisation and payments.
Local authority responsibilities including elderly people's homes, leisure centres, and more than 400 schools catering will all be under Pelican's control.
Three members of staff from Pelican will be based at the city council's office on a full-time basis. The company has also employed a nutritionist to provide technical expertise and support in product sourcing and nutrition product analysis.
Stephen Tennant, marketing and sales director at Pelican, said: "The Birmingham Pelican team will work closely with key stakeholders from across the council in order to deliver the best services and ensure the needs of the local communities are fully met.
"This means ensuring all product tenders are developed to reflect the service user's exacting requirements, to then making sure the resulting contract mobilises correctly with the chosen supplier."
