William Woodsend site snapped up

The former workshop of Nottingham-based William Woodsend has been sold for £405,000 after the company entered members' voluntary liquidation.

The freehold of the building constractor's former workshop was bought by Derby-based housebuilder Wheeldon Brothers.

Once the purchase has been completed, Wheeldon Brothers said it intends to submit a planning application to convert the surrounding site into residential housing.

The deal was completed by estate agent Chesterton Humberts on behalf of joint administrators Peter Blair and Andrew Cordon of Begbies Traynor.

William Woodsend had operated on the site for more than 50 years before entering liquidation in February this year.

The 13,326 sq ft workshop and depot is set on a half-acre site. It was previously used as a joinery workshop with first floor office space.

Edward Parkin, land director of Wheeldon Brothers, said: “This is one of several exciting acquisitions for Wheeldon’s this year and compliments our existing adjacent land holding on Castle Boulevard.

"A planning application for a sympathetic residential conversion with the retention of the former workshop premises into modern city houses will be submitted in the next few months. We look forwards to bringing the homes to the market in 2012."
