Pearson swoops for TQ
TQ Holdings, a £23m-turnover company based in Derbyshire, has been acquired by learning company Pearson. TQ, which provides technical and vocation education services, was bought for an undisclosed sum.
Lockington-based TQ supplies its services to governments, institutions and corporations around the world, with its main markets being in the UK and the Middle East.
It specialises in skills related to the defence, engineering, oil and gas and construction sectors.
Pearson said the acquisition would boost its growth both in the UK and internationally and allow it to explore new markets.
It added that the deal would support its objective of building "a strong professional and vocational education business, connecting specialist training for work-based skills with Pearson's content and technology platforms".
TQ has contracts with the Saudi Petroleum Services Polytechnic in Saudi Arabia, the Welbeck Defence Sixth Form College in Leicestershire and the Royal School of Military Engineering.
Earlier this year, Pearson also acquired Coventry-based EDI, which provides education and training qualifications in the UK.
