Business Woman of the Year revealed
The managing director of Shilton-headquartered D-Drill has been crowned Business Woman of the Year 2011. She follows in the footsteps of The Apprentice's Karren Brady and Bravissimo founder Sarah Tremellen, who have also won the title.
Julie White, who was presented with the award sponsored by Vitalise at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole, was praised for modernising her drilling business, increasing turnover and signing D-Drill up to an apprenticeship scheme.
She bought the business from her father in 2008 and has enjoyed a varied career which has included selling pizzas in a bikini and working as a yacht's skipper.
She said: "I am absolutely delighted and honoured to have won such a major award.
"It's not a case of competing against men – it's all about giving other women the confidence to see what they can achieve. The industry that I am in is traditionally dominated by men and if I can do what I have done – other women can too."
White spoke having recently completed a walk to the Everest Base Camp.
Judy Groves, chairman of the awards said: "We had some fantastic entries from across the region but we were just bowled over by Julie's story and her commitment to everything she does."
