£14m university scheme given go-ahead
Planning consent has been granted to turn the University of Leicester's College Hall listed building into a residential conference venue.
The application for the £14m project, which was submitted by developer BDO Planning Studio, was given the green light by Leicester City Council’s planning committee.
The Grade II-listed site was designed in the late 1950s by architects Trevor Dannatt and Sir Leslie Martin and served as student accommodation up until 2004.
Plans for the new conference venue have been designed by the design teams from Associated Architects, Giffords, Couch Perry Wilkes, Gillespies, BWB Consulting, Gleeds and DBK.
The venue will comprise a residential training and conference centre which will provide four-star accommodation and conference facilities for up to 300 delegates.
This approval follows a number of other consents that Manchester-based BDP Planning Studio has recently secured for the university, including a waste transfer and storage facilities.
