Something for the weekend

Person urgently required

Tempting fate by mocking a spelling mistake is not something we often do here, but we couldn't resist the howler in the latest Wolverhampton City Council jobs bulletin. Found way down on page 15 there was a job advert for a 'Communicatioins Officer'. Who says that irony is dead? Quick! Fill that role!

Double the pun

How many puns can you fit in a press release? Two, it seems. A former Ryder Cup captain helped Solihull residents improve their golfing swing to mark the launch of a new fast train service to London. Bernard Gallacher shared his golfing wisdom with shoppers at Touchwood Shopping Centre recently to help ‘tee off’ the new Mainline train service from Chiltern Railways. The launch of Mainline has brought the UK’s first and second cities even closer as Chiltern has slashed journey times and introduced a simplified pricing structure. Thomas Ableman, director for Chiltern Railways, said: "We were thrilled with the response from the Touchwood shoppers and delighted to have such a renowned professional as Bernard to help 'drive' interest." We get it, Thomas. We get it…

Pedal power

A Worcester property expert who hadn't ridden a bike for years has saddled herself with a mammoth African adventure – cycling 400km across Kenya. Charlotte Fullard, of Halls Commercial, is working on boosting her pedal power as she trains on the roads and hills around Worcestershire in preparation for the Women v Cancer event in October. She recently cycled 120 miles to Swansea as she stepped up her training schedule. Imagine biking 120 miles and ending up in Swansea. We’d be gutted. Good luck, Charlotte!
