Work starts on £2.2m Beeston site
Demolition work has begun at Webs Furniture Training in Beeston, where the current 1960s building is being knocked down to make way for a £2.2m training facility.
The company, which provides training courses for the furniture industry, is expanding by constructing a 7,543 sq ft training facility and refurbishing an existing building, Holly Mill. It will comprise teaching space, offices and facilities for the 14 staff and 200 students.
Skills Funding Agency has part-funded the multimillion-pound site, which has been designed by Nottingham based CPMG Architects.
Peter Sisson, director at Webs Furniture Training, said: "The new building has been five years in the planning so to see the demolition start is really exciting as it means it is actually happening.
"The project is important not only for us but for the furniture industry as we are investing in facilities to train future generations of craftsmen and women which is essential for securing the future of furniture manufacturing in the UK."
Mansell Construction Services is the main contractor carrying out the demolition, building and refurbishment work. The building is due to be completed in April 2012.
