The Coventry and Warwickshire LEP has appointed two additional board members.

George Gillespie, chief executive of advanced engineering, research and testing complex MIRA, and Les Caborn, deputy leader of Warwick District Council, have joined the organisation.

Their appointments to the LEP takes the number of board members to 16, with eight from the private sector, six from the public sector and a representative each from the area’s two universities.

Gillespie has been at the helm of MIRA, which was recently awarded enterprise zone status, since 2009.

Caborn has been a councillor for 20 years and is the lead member for Warwick District Council on the New Local Plan – which will guide the district’s future for the next 15 to 20 years.

Denys Shortt, chair of the LEP, said: "Both new directors are valuable additions. George is taking MIRA forward with great gusto and their recent granting of Enterprise Zone status is fantastic news for North Warwickshire.

"The whole purpose of the LEP is to create jobs and growth – our two new board members are linked to 16,000 jobs - made up of 2,000 at Mira and 14,000 at Coventry Airport."
