Don't let us run the country - Prisk

Business minister Mark Prisk delivered a rousing speech at the Made festival this week pledging the government's support for Britain's entrepreneurs and outlining a raft of future measures to create an environment for business growth. However, the inspirational address was closed in an unusual fashion by quoting the famed American President Ronald Reagan. Prisk explained: "Reagan used to say the nine most frightening words he ever heard were: 'Hello, I'm from the government. I'm here to help."

He added: "We don't want to run the country, we want to help you do it."

Olympic cold

As if hard-up business owners didn't have enough to worry about with the Eurozone crisis and falling consumer spend, they've now been warned to be on the look-out for staff taking sickies and sneaking off to the 2012 Olympics. Midlands consultancy Bibby CAS has urged companies to beware of sneaky employees taking time off "with such a major temptation" happening on their doorstep. Even if generous bosses allow staff to watch the Games at work they could be walking into a "legislative minefield", according to Bibby CAS, and they could even face harassment charges if they let employees put up flags in the office to support their nation's gold-medal hopefuls. Fortunately, we at Insider towers are ignoring the Games as our 100m final tickets didn't materialise in the ballot, so no fear for your daily helping of news, folks.
