E.ON cuts 500 Mids jobs

E.ON has announced plans to cut 500 jobs across the Midlands.

The company is looking for voluntary redundancies in its support staff as it seeks to trim costs after selling Central Networks to focus on its customer facing business.

The cuts will affect its operations in Coventry and, "to a lesser extent", its Nottingham base. However, it says it is unable to accurately predict the losses at each site because it is looking for voluntary redundancies.

Dr Paul Golby, chief executive of E.ON UK, said: "We had to undertake a deep and rigorous review of how much money we spend in order to ensure we keep costs as low as possible for our customers, become a more agile organisation and build a sustainable business in the UK.

"While I'm very aware that this will be a difficult time for our colleagues, it is our aim to keep uncertainty to a minimum and to achieve these redundancies by voluntary means."
