Mercury Alliance rises with £28m contract
Leamington Spa-based Mercury Alliance has won a £28m contract with Somerset County Council.
The authority awarded the contract to provide it with soft facilities management services for up to seven years.
Mercury Alliance won the contract for combined catering and cleaning services following an eight-way competitive tender.
The council's contract includes servicing more than 150 schools, libraries and office buildings, and will also involve the transfer of about 400 staff members to Mercury, and its partners, employment under TUPE legislation, which protects employees and their pensions.
Councillor Harvey Siggs, Somerset County Council cabinet member responsible for human resources, said: "This contract will save the council up to £2.3m over its term, thanks to the economies of scale an organisation like Mercury Alliance can provide, and will ensure continuity of service provision."
The cleaning element of Mercury's contract will be delivered by the company's partner ICM, while the food service provision will be managed by another partner, Edwards & Ward.
