Green light for £3m medical centre
The proposed £3m project to transform the grade II listed former Rosebery School into a medical centre has been approved by planning officials.
Charnwood Medical Group has been given the green light and work will now start in autumn with completion expected for summer 2012.
Lloyds TSB Commercial's specialist healthcare team has provided a £2m loan for the project and Loughborough-based developer William Davis will undertake the work.
The iconic school building was constructed in 1897. The new facility will feature surgeries for seven GPs, consulting rooms, a pharmacy and car parking.
Paul Hanlon, business manager for the Charnwood Medical Group, said: "The additional space that we will gain by moving our surgery to the Rosebery School will enable us to offer increased and improved services to local people and give us the opportunity to provide state-of-the-art consulting facilities.
Jon Saltinstall, senior healthcare banking consultant for Lloyds TSB Commercial, said: "Despite uncertainties surrounding the profession ahead of imminent regulatory changes, recent findings in the Lloyds TSB Commercial Healthcare Index report suggest that 51 per cent of GPs would like to own their own premises at some point in the future."
