Mansfield retail and housing plans unvelied

Regent Street Developments has submitted a planning application for a mixed-use scheme in Mansfield.

The planning application, which has been submitted by the Nottingham-based developer, is due to be considered by Mansfield District Council in October.

Proposals refer to a site at Woodhouse Road at the junction of Birding Street, which previously housed a Ma Hubbard’s restaurant. Under the plans, the restaurant would be demolished and a new retail development constructed.

A convenience store, two other retail units and 18 customer car parking spaces have also been proposed.

At the back of the retail parade there are plans to create 11 residential properties, which will be a mixture of town houses and semi-detached houses.

Charles Trafford, of Trafford Oliver, is marketing the site on behalf of Regent Street Developments.

Trafford said: "My clients recognised that this site has great potential and a development of this kind will really benefit the local community. It is really positive news that developers are prepared to invest in both commercial and residential developments in the area.

"The site and the now abandoned Ma Hubbard’s restaurant are derelict. There is a real opportunity to regenerate a site which has come to the end of its previous economic life. We have already confirmed a national convenience retailer as a tenant and I am confident that we won’t have problems finding others."
