Professional services firm PwC has grown its turnover by 6 per cent over the last year. Revenues have hit £2.46bn at the firm, which has an office in Birmingham.

PwC said its assurance business had performed particularly well, despite "volatile financial markets".

Turnover increased to £2.46bn for the year ended 30 June 2011, up from £2.33bn in the previous year.

The accountancy firm said that within the year, its assurance business had won audits with Aviva, TUI and IG Holdings and had achieved a growth of 6 per cent to £909m. Its advisory business grew turnover by 8 per cent to £907m and in its tax practices there was a 2 per cent increase, with turnover rising to £645m.

Ian Powell, PwC UK chairman and senior partner, said: "I am pleased to report turnover growth of 6 per cent, a strong performance in a period of volatile financial markets, fragile economic confidence and the tightening of public expenditure.

"We continued to stay close to our clients and to invest in the future of our business. These investments included the recruitment of 3,200 people, 81 new partners, opening a new and environmentally leading London office and the acquisition of the Diamond consulting business."

PwC said it had continued to invest in its practices and it recruited more than 2,400 staff in the UK and a further 800 in the Middle East.
