John Bowler's Eggs shells out on eco business
A Derbyshire egg supplier has launched a new business providing renewable energy solutions after securing funding from Barclays Corporate.
The team behind John Bowler's Eggs has set up Bowler's Energy which provides renewable solutions in the form of wind turbines and photovoltaic (PV) installations.
John Bowler's Eggs, which was founded more than 30 years ago, specialises in helping land owners produce free-range eggs.
The company said it became increasingly concerned about soaring electricity costs involved in running the business and identified a gap in the market for advice and guidance on renewable energy.
It secured an undisclosed funding sum from Barclays Corporate to launch Bowler Energy, which provides a consultancy service on renewable projects to generate electricity, save costs and raise revenue.
Mick Thomas, at Bowler Energy said: "We have been in the business of setting people up to produce free range eggs for more than 30 years and electricity costs are at an all-time high. We needed to find an alternative solution and began our research.
"This led us to understand the need for renewable energy experts and decided that not only could we share what we had learned with our own customers and suppliers but with the wider industry."
John Bowler’s Eggs employs 82 staff and has 165 free range egg producers across the country.
