Deli hungry for trade after expansion

A Birmingham grocer is expanding in Edgbaston with the opening of a new store.

Simon Dunmore is set to launch The Deli at Edgbaston at 21 Highfield Road later this month, which he then plans to expand with a restaurant. He founded The Grocer in Birmingham six years ago.

Dunmore said: "The first stage will see us concentrating on the upmarket sandwiches and salads market using quality ingredients sourced locally, so very much building on what we have achieved at The Grocer over the last six years.

"Production of the sandwiches and salads will be switching from the store at Templefield Square and we’ll also be building on the catering service we offer to businesses across Edgbaston.

“The second stage will then be the opening of a restaurant on the site, which will probably happen in late November."

Dunmore was advised on the move by the Birmingham office of accountancy firm Chantrey Vellacott DFK in Birmingham, which moved into offices across from the deli earlier this year.

"When Chantrey Vellacott decided to move onto Calthorpe Road it drew my attention to this building next door and, having discussed our plans for the deli with Suk Aulak at the firm, we both came up with the idea to try to open up here at the same time," said Dunmore.
