Tony Cocker is set to succeed Paul Golby as the chief executive of Coventry-based energy giant E.ON UK.

Cocker, who is currently chief executive of Düsseldorf-based E.ON Energy Trading, will take over from Golby on 31 December.

He has led E.ON Energy Trading since its creation in 2008, and has brought together businesses from across the E.ON group to create and build a single global entity.

Cocker said: "I am delighted to be appointed to lead E.ON UK. It is a hugely interesting and challenging time in our industry, as we seek to change the energy system to reduce our carbon emissions whilst maintaining secure and competitively-priced energy for our customers.

"It is also a great privilege to follow Paul, who has ensured that E.ON UK is at the heart of these changes."

Golby has led E.ON UK, which was formerly known as Powergen, since its acquisition by E.ON AG in 2002. He will retire after stepping down from the E.ON board.
