Far East will boost automotive sector, says KPMG

Share | |

The growth of Far Eastern countries should sustain the UK's automotive economy through its peaks and troughs. That's according to John Leech, partner in KPMG’s automotive practice in Birmingham.

His comments come as it was revealed the UK recorded a 7.3 per cent rise in new car sales in August.

Despite the sales boost to almost 60,000 units last month, Leech warned that it will be September's number plate-change figures which would be "the health barometer" of the new car market.

He said: "The SMMT’s full year forecast remains on track, the market is still fragile – manufacturers are recognising this and therefore are offering some great deals in the marketplace to keep consumers buying.

"Despite these home market uncertainties, the growth of Far Eastern economies such as China and India is likely to continue to sustain the UK’s automotive industry, through its peaks and troughs, for decades to come."
