Rossopomodoro takes a slice of Birmingham action
Pizza company Rossopomodoro has opened its first UK restaurant outside London in Birmingham's Selfridges food hall.
Rossopomodoro, which claims to be the largest pizza brand in Italy, announced plans to expand after receiving investment from private equity firm Change Capital Partners.
Launched this week in the food hall of Selfridges in Birmingham, the restaurant will seat 60 and serve artisan pizzas and pasta dishes.
The Birmingham opening is part of the company’s expansion plans in the UK, Italy and the US.
Rossopomodoro’s UK marketing head Mario Romano said: "Birmingham is an extraordinary city with many diverse cultures and a very exciting food scene. Add to that the fact that our new restaurant will be within Selfridges, the city’s most prestigious store, and we have found our perfect home outside London."
Roger Holme, former chief executive of Marks & Spencer and co-founder of investor Change Capital, told Insider the company would be focussing on growing in the UK and the US.
"The company has done tremendously well so far," he said. " We definietly want to see it expand the number of outlets it operates internationally."
Holmes said Rossopmodoro had chosen to set up in Birmingham as it represented "one of the largest markets outside London".
"The partnership with Selfridges was an ideal opportunity," he said. "It is a great way to begin the expansion outside London."
