Dave's Discount buys up News Express outlets
Grocery chain Dave's Discount Group has bought 41 News Express shops from the Mid-Counties Co-operative Group.
The stores, which previously traded under the 'Stars' brand, are all based in the Midlands.
Dave's Discount Group, based in Dudley, runs outlets including wine shops, post offices and convenience stores in the region. A spokesperson for the company said the deal with the Co-op "complemented the group's existing portfolio".
It is also the owner of trade names Thresher, Victoria Wine, The Local and Bottoms Up.
The shops will continue to be run by the company as going concerns. Deal competition is expected on 16 September.
The deal was completed by solicitor Engrez Sanghera from Lichfield-based commercial property investor SEP Properties.
In January this year, Dave's Discount Group acquired 14 former Thresher and Wine Rack stores from administrator KPMG. The company continued to trade the stores after parent company FirstQuench entered administration in 2009.
