Aerospace centre gets lift-off
Work has started on the construction of the University of Nottingham's £3.3m aerospace technology centre.
Herbert Baggaley Construction has begun building the centre, which will become a research and development hub for the university.
The building forms part of the university’s £7m institute for aerospace technology. It is being created with £3.6m funding from the European Regional Development Fund.
Through the development on Innovation Park, a steel framed building will be constructed to provide space for a workshop, offices, meeting rooms and laboratories.
Baggaley, based in Mansfield, is also providing all external services with the hard and soft landscaping.
Chris Jagger, chief estates officer at The University of Nottingham, said: "This new building forms part of our extensive and exciting estates development programme. All these developments enhance this University’s portfolio of purpose-built facilities for learning, teaching, research and business engagement."
The centre has been designed by architects WM Saunders Partnership and it is due for completion in February 2012.
The Innovation Park has been shortlisted for a 2011 Lord Stafford Award for Open Collaboration.
