Police HQ offered to developers
The former headquarters of Staffordshire Police has been put up for sale to residential property developers.
Staffordshire Police Authority said it had been given planning permission for residential development on the 15.7–acre site by Stafford Borough Council.
The site is located on Cannock Road in Weeping Cross, near Stafford. Its sale is being handled by real estate adviser Colliers International.
Staffordshire Police moved from Cannock Road to purpose-built headquarters in Weston Road, Stafford, in February 2010.
Cannock Road was first occupied by the police force in the 1950s, initially as a driver training school, and in the 1960s was developed as its headquarters.
Mike Brassington, director, UK development consulting and agency at Colliers International in Manchester, said: "This opportunity arises from a successful collaboration between Staffordshire Police Authority and Stafford Borough Council to deliver an appropriate new use for the former police headquarters.
"The site represents an attractive redevelopment opportunity and will be of significant interest to national housebuilders capable of providing a broad mix of family housing sympathetic to the immediate surrounding area."
