350 Uniq jobs to go in Shropshire
Chilled dessert company Uniq has said it will close several operations at its Shropshire site with the loss of 350 jobs.
Buckinghamshire-headquartered Uniq said the move was the result of an in-depth review of its desserts division.
It said it planned to focus on its premium dessert and Muller/Cadbury desserts businesses and exit its loss-making everyday desserts business.
Selected premium desserts sales from Uniq’s Minsterley site will be transferred to its Evercreech site, the company confirmed.
Uniq estimated the restructuring costs would stand at about £10m, including capital investment.
Once the restructuring has been completed, the Minsterley site will employ about 100 people focused solely on the Muller/Cadbury chocolate desserts business. The Evercreech business, having already exited cottage cheese in 2011, will become a specialist premium desserts supplier.
The news comes just weeks after food manufacturer Greencore made a £113m bid for the dessert supplier. The proposed takeover is currently being investigated by the Office of Fair Trading.
