Gekko shines with Midven investment
A Kenilworth lighting company whose film credits include Mamma Mia and Star Trek has received £510,000-worth of backing from venture capitalist Midven.
Gekko Technology secured the cash from Birmingham-based Midven's Exceed – Midlands Advantage fund.
The business has developed a new range of LED lighting for the international film and television industry and said the funding would be used as additional working capital.
Blockbuster films including Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Mamma Mia, Golden Compass and Star Trek have featured the company's lighting products.
Gekko said it would use the cash to build the business, increase sales and undertake further research and development.
It also recently joined forces with US-based PRG to establish a North American dealer network.
David Amphlett, managing director of Gekko, said: "Our focus has been on the development of high quality, reliable and feature-rich products backed by intellectual property rights with and introducing our products to some of the leading television and film production studios.
"Our order book has never been larger and we are forecasting significant growth in turnover as Gekko is increasingly recognised as - to quote one of our industry journals - the 'rising star in the design and manufacture of innovative LED lighting'."
