The extra mile

A Redditch sales executive has received a national Unsung Hero award after giving "exceptional customer service". Richard Goode, who works for Redditch Volkswagen, is one of five winners who has been recognised by Volkswagen UK for going the extra mile for customers. The 44-year-old, who joined the Volkswagen site in 2010, was acknowledged for not only going the extra mile for customers but quite literally driving up to 780 miles in a week, to deliver customers' cars. The new service award, organised by Volkswagen UK, is aimed at recognising individuals from the 7,000 people in its retailer network that go over and above the call of duty for customers as part of their normal day-to-day job. Redditch Volkswagen’s sales manager, Bill Alexander, who nominated Richard, said: "On a number of occasions Richard has personally delivered cars to customers, but these are not local addresses. In one particular week he drove to Manchester, Southampton and Reading, all in his own time as he wanted to exceed customers' expectations. What more could a customer ask for? These selfless acts should be recognised." Goode by name…

Magic moments

Carluccio's is imploring West Midlanders to forget about the recent riots by taking part month long festival in honour of the mushroom taking place in Birmingham from 10 September to 10 October. The restaurant will be offering hungry shoppers a chance to try a selection of weekly changing seasonal mushroom specials alongside a selection of lesser-known regional specialities that focus on different varieties of mushroom. A mushroom festival, eh? We hope it doesn't attract the wrong kind of clientele.

Don’t dress me down

Those old enough to remember the heyday of Dexy's Midnight Runners might have winced when they saw singer Kevin Rowland dressed in stockings and suspenders on the cover of his 1999 album, 'My Beauty', but his rehabilitation has continued with the news that he’s set to receive an honorary degree from the University of Wolverhampton. Let's hope he turns up in more suitable attire to the ceremony.
