TJ Hughes to shut East Mids stores
Sixty-six jobs are to be axed in the East Midlands after collapsed discount retailer TJ Hughes announced it would close its Derby and Corby stores later this month.
The company, which entered administration in June, said it will close 12 of its stores in the UK.
Joint administrators from Ernst & Young said the search for a buyer is still ongoing for TJ Hughes' remaining assets, but a purchaser could not be found for 12 more stores in its portfolio.
Shops in Coventry, Bootle, Corby, Romford, Redditch, Plymouth, Oldham, Derby, Scunthorpe and Belfast will close their doors for good on Sunday (21 August). A further two are also set for closure.
The Corby outlet employs 27 members of staff; the Derby store 39.
Tom Jack, joint administrator at EY, said: "A purchaser for these stores was not found, and regrettably we have had to schedule the store closures.
"We are extremely grateful to the employees and management at all the group's stores for their loyalty and support during this very difficult time. We are keen to stress that those stores unaffected by these closures will continue to trade for the time being."
TJ Hughes, which would have celebrated its centenary next year, entered administration in late June. At the time it traded from 57 stores and employed more than 4,000 staff.
