Mansell wins £13m care home deal
The Stourbridge-based western branch of construction business Mansell has been awarded a contract to build a £13m care home in Bedford.
The St Bedes scheme contract is for social housing landlord Orbit Heart of England, through the Orbit Homes contract framework agreement.
Part of a former school will be demolished on the site and Mansell will construct a four-storey, 104-bedroom care home. The property will comprise one- and two-bedroom apartments for rent and shared ownership for the over-55s.
Two Victorian villas will also be refurbished to provide offices, a restaurant, hairdressers and cinema.
The St Bedes scheme will be built to the Code for Sustainable Homes, making use of renewable technology and water saving devices, said Mansell.
The contract is due for completion in February 2013.
