Tourism figures on the rise in Leicestershire
Growth in accommodation bookings has generated £1.38m for Leicestershire in 2010/11. The county's 'visitor economy' also reached £1.3bn, according to Leicester Shire Promotions' annual report.
A further £4.5m of conference business is expected to be brought in over next three years.
Leicester Shire Promotions' 2010/11 report shows the visitor economy grew by 10.2 per cent over the last five years.
The organisation said that a growing number of hotel bookings had boosted its visitor economy, bringing in an additional £1.3m over the last year.
Martin Peters, chief executive of Leicester Shire Promotions, said: "As most industries are, the tourism industry is directly affected by the financial squeeze but these figures show that there is still potential for steady growth.
"As a publicly-funded body, we’ve also been impacted by financial restraints and so these achievements are particularly commendable. They show that we’ve raised our game to hit or exceed a large number of our strategic targets."
