Local economy suffering after riots, says chamber
Potential investors could be deterred by the riots seen in Nottingham, according to the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce.
George Cowcher, chief executive of the chamber, also said the night-time economy in the city will continue to be affected as residents are put off visiting bars and restaurants in the city during the rioting.
He warned that businesses in the region now faced the prospect of paying out for additional security measures and higher insurance premiums.
Cowcher said: "There is already huge uncertainty in the business community because of the current state of the global economy, so the last thing we need is any further knocks to business confidence.
"These incidents are detrimental to Nottingham in as much as they will put people off coming into the city at night to use bars, pubs and restaurants, so the night-time economy will continue to be affected for as long as they continue. They may also put off potential investors from coming to Nottingham if they continue for a prolonged period."
