Businesses across the West Midlands are waking up to the aftermath of a second night of rioting across the city.

Stores were looted and cars were set on fire in Birmingham. Stores affected by the violence include a McDonald's restaurant and shops in the city's Mailbox centre.

Riot police last night surrounded the Mailbox centre in an attempt to prevent further damage to the site.

The Bullring was also targeted by looters.

A Bullring spokesman told reporters: "Following an earlier disturbance, in which external units Yoshe Nail Bar and Savers were damaged, Bullring continues to work closely with the police to ensure that the area is made safe and has drafted in additional security measures this evening. The malls are currently being guarded by a number of fully-trained protection dogs."

Shops in New Street and Colmore Row were also targeted.

Last night National Express cancelled all routes into Birmingham and Wolverhampton, but a full service has resumed this morning.

John Lamb, spokesperson for the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce said the organisation had been inundated by enquries "from local media to ABC in Australia".

Further riots were recorded in West Bromwich, Wolverhampton and Cannock overnight.
