Brintons Carpets set for takeover - report
Kidderminster carpet manufacturer Brintons Carpets is set to be snapped up by an American private equity group, according to a report.
The Sunday Times reported that the company, which was founded in 1783, is in "advanced rescue talks" with New York buyout business Carlyle, which has more than $150bn of worldwide investments.
The newspaper reported that if the deal completes it will be the first time the business will be owned by someone outside of the Brinton family.
Brinton Carpets has made carpets for Buckingham Palace and the QE2 in recent years and prides itself on using only British wool.
It is reported that the deal will involve Carlyle taking over bank loans of £18m.
Brintons Carpets has not released a statement on the speculation.
