Airport hangar scheme takes off

Share | |

Construction is underway on a £2.9m hangar at East Midlands Airport. The site has been pre-let to aerial surveying, surveillance and aviation company Reconnaissance Ventures (RVL).

Having relocated from Coventry Airport last year, RVL signed a 20-year lease for the new facility with the airport's owner Manchester Airport Group (MAG) Developments.

Located within the maintenance area at East Midlands Airport, the 26,000 sq ft hangar will house RVL’s engineering services and its fleet of 20 aircraft.

It will be connected to an office block of about 6,000 sq ft, which will accommodate 50 employees in RVL’s operations, commercial and administration divisions.

Brad Miller, managing director of East Midlands Airport, said: "We’re delighted that RVL have chosen to join our ever-expanding airport community. East Midlands Airport is a key business location within the region and a thriving hub, which plays a critical role in the global cargo network and supports many local and national businesses.

"This specially-designed new facility is a substantial development for the airport and offers RVL the opportunity to further expand in a key location.”

Other projects currently ongoing at East Midlands Airport include the construction of a 216-bed four-star Radisson Blu Hotel which is due for completion in October 2011 and a hub facility for Royal Mail.
