Willmott Dixon wins £61m university scheme
Birmingham City University has appointed Willmott Dixon as the approved contractor for its £61m redevelopment project.
The Birmingham-based contractor will complete phase one of the university's city centre campus scheme at Eastside.
Willmott Dixon will build the 197,087 sq ft site on a plot adjacent to Millennium Point, providing a purpose-built home for the university's Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (BIAD).
The centre has been designed by Associated Architects, also based in the city. It will feature a media hub incorporating TV, radio and photographic studios.
Professor David Tidmarsh, vice chancellor of Birmingham City University, said: "I am delighted to announce our intention to work with local company Willmott Dixon. This is another milestone in our ambition to build a city centre campus to create a learning quarter in the heart of Birmingham.
"This will be a significant investment by the university to provide a major boost for the city and surrounding region because this landmark facility will attract a new generation of ambitious students keen to become part of a highly skilled workforce."
The city centre campus development is the first stage in the university's £180m investment programme.
