A total of 105 proposals linked to the West Midlands have been submitted in the second round of Regional Growth Fund (RGF) bidding.

Bids from the region accounted for 13.2 per cent of those received from across the UK, according to data from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS).

West Midlands organisations put forward the fourth highest number of bids from a UK region, behind the North West, Yorkshire and Humber and the North East.

The government received 492 bids from across the UK, totalling £3.3bn - however, the RGF pot has only £950,000 to distribute among projects.

A total of 464 bids were submitted in the first round of bidding for a portion of the £1.4bn cash fund. The bids amounted to £2.78bn.

In the first round of RGF bids, which took place in February this year, the West Midlands submitted 72 bids. Of these, just five were successful in receiving funding.
