Green light for Travis Perkins' Camden site

Northampton builders' merchant Travis Perkins has secured planning permission for a new trading facility in Camden, London.

The proposals were submitted alongside a bid from UNITE, which develops and manages student properties.

UNITE put forward plans to build a 563-bed development in Camden, of which Travis Perkins' Properties division would take the ground floor.

The warehouse is expected to comprise 41,731 sq ft.

Travis Perkins will be provided with the building supply warehouse once the development completes, said UNITE.

Richard Simpson, UNITE's development director, said: "The scheme in Camden is a further milestone in our target to substantially expand our presence in the key London market."

The announcement comes just days after Travis Perkins revealed its revenue has soared more than 54 per cent in the first six months of 2011. Pre-tax profit had also grown by a quarter to £140m.

UNITE said it had agreed funding facilities on the scheme.
