Work has begun on the construction of Siemens' £20m gas turbine site in North Hykeham near Lincoln. The build-phase of the project is expected to create about 250 construction jobs in Lincoln.

The Leeds office of regeneration company St Modwen held a ceremony to mark the official start on the 135,000 sq ft development at Teal Park.

Siemens' gas turbine service business will occupy 11 of the 87 acres at the Teal Park site and will comprise a 50,000 sq ft office and an 85,000 sq ft service workshop.

Additional land is also supplied for the company to expand onto.

Stephen Prosser, North East and Yorkshire regional director for St Modwen, said: "St Modwen, as Siemens’ development partner, has been working for some considerable time in close partnership with Lincolnshire County Council, North Kesteven District Council and landowners, Taylor Lindsey, to ensure that the many strands of this complex project are knitted together, that Siemens is secured, and the facility can be successfully delivered.

"The build phase of the project will create employment opportunities for around 250 construction workers in Lincoln and the move will further strengthen Siemen’s service offering, allowing the company to retain over 500 permanent jobs in the region."
