FAL bought in £11m deal swoop

Food Analytical Laboratory (FAL), based in Stoke-on-Trent, has been bought by safety services provider Intertek Group. FAL was purchased for £6m as part of a trio of acquisitions by Intertek, it was announced this morning (1 August).

FAL is a food testing laboratory which provides chemical and microbiological services for food producers in the UK.

The company was purchased from its management shareholders for a total of £6m. FAL, which employs 73 people at its base in Stoke-on-Trent, will form part of Intertek's Industry & Assurance division.

Intertek announced three acquisitions this morning, totalling £11.5m. the other two purchased businesses were Recherche, Developpement & Consulting, based in Belgium, and Hampshire-headquartered QinetiQ UK Fuel and Lubricants Testing Business.

Wolfhart Hauser, chief executive officer of Intertek, said: "These three acquisitions demonstrate Intertek's progress in its strategy to add new expertise and capabilities across the supply chain in areas where our clients' development of new technologies and operations demand them.

"FAL will bring new expertise to Intertek and provide a UK-based food testing laboratory to complement the existing food services business.

"We look forward to welcoming these companies and their management teams to Intertek."
