Chamber launches trade apprenticeship

Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce's training division has launched an international trade and logistics operations apprenticeship.

Chamber Training's course has been created to help fledgling and experienced exporters grow their business.

David Hood, the chamber’s head of international trade, said that the enlargement of the European Union provides marketing and sales opportunities "which are too good to miss".

He added: "With unrestricted access to more than 450 milion consumers and rapidly growing and emerging markets such as India, China, Brazil and the Middle East, prospects for growth are astounding. But without a trained workforce to support the industry, our potential for growth could be hindered.

"It is clear that to grow overseas trade there needs to be a substantial workforce trained to work within the international trade sector and the business community. To achieve this we have to start with apprentices working their way through the international maze."

The apprenticeship offers free training for 16–18 year olds, but a contribution is required from the employer to train those aged 19 and older.
