Murphy & Son brews up chemical deal
Murphy & Son, the Nottingham-based brewing specialist, has acquired chemicals supplier Catomance Technologies.
Stevenage-based Catomance supplies chemicals to the leather processing industry and water repellant treatments for the paper and converting industries.
Murphy & Son, which provides cleaning, manual handling and technical support services to the brewing industry, said the deal would allow it to diversify its existing laboratory and testing services.
The Nottingham company said it would relocate the Catomance business from its existing premises in Stevenage to the Murphy & Son premises at Alpine Street, Old Basford.
Christine Fleming, joint managing director of Murphy & Son, said: "Murphy & Son Limited have been looking to maintain a steady growth profile; whilst looking overseas to grow the core business, the UK brewing industry has shown little opportunity for organic growth.
"We have been looking for a manufacturing and laboratory acquisition that will complement our current operations and take us into another area with synergistic operational characteristics. We are confident that we have found it with Catomance Technologies."
Legal advice to Murphy & Son was provided by the Nottingham office of Nelsons.
Catomance and its shareholders were advised by a team from Sherrards.
