Something for the weekend
It’s not the winning…
West Midlanders are among the most excited in the UK about the forthcoming London 2012 Olympics, according to research by PwC. A total of 41 per cent of consumers in the East Midlands said they were looking forward to the event and the benefits it could bring.
However, West Midlands folk are not necessarily planning to attend the event, however. To date, only 3 per cent of consumers in the region have successfully secured tickets to attend sporting events during the London 2012 Olympics. Oh.
Crowning glory
Crown Paints is calling on businesses, voluntary organisations, schools and colleges to put themselves in the running for free paint – which, even before you consider what’s on offer, is just a lovely sounding phrase. The 200-year-old company, sold last month following a triumphant turnaround, is inviting organisations to apply, explaining why they want the paint. Winners from every region in the UK will be chosen later this year. They will then pick their paint from a range of 250 Crown products. Crown is probably after a lengthier spiel than "to paint with," but we wish a painful death on anyone who says "to make the room look bigger".
Children are the future
In a massive stroke of luck, as there’ll be no jobs or pensions for them anyway, a survey commissioned to support the Ambition AXA Awards reports excitedly that "Britain is brimming with future entrepreneurs". Apparently, more than three-quarters of 2,000 11 to 18-year-olds surveyed said they would like to start their own business in the future, with 47 per cent saying that they have always wanted to be their own boss. How sweet.
Karren Brady, somewhat inevitably one of the judges, modestly said: "Gender should never be an issue when it comes to achieving ambitions. I’ve long been aware that women like me are paving the way for our daughters, so it’s rewarding to see that this is now happening."
