The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), based in Coventry, has appointed Martyn Pellew as president, succeeding Neville Reyner.

Pellew has been vice president of the industry body since July 2010.

He takes up his new role at the BCC following ten years' involvement with the North East Chamber of Commerce, where he was president from 2009 to 2011.

Pellew said: "The British Chambers of Commerce is truly a leading voice in business and I am delighted to be appointed president.

"I look forward to driving the organisation forward, and to continuing the BCC's strong campaign to encourage enterprise and business growth. The BCC, and the Chamber of Commerce movement, represent businesses of every size, across every part of the UK, and will play a critical role in the UK's future growth."
