BSP Consulting finalises £15m leisure site
BSP Consulting, based in Derby, has completed work on a £15m health and leisure centre in Blackpool.
Civil and structural engineering company BSP has created what is thought to be the UK's "first sustainable urban drainage system" at the Moor Park Health and Leisure Centre.
The finished scheme includes three GP surgeries; Primary Care Trust outpatient services; a library; gym and swimming pool.
BSP worked alongside Ashby-de-la-Zouch-based developer LSP Developments and Tamworth-based architect West Hart Partnership on the scheme.
The team previously worked together on a similar scheme in Grimsby, which last year won the HealthInvestor Property of the Year Award.
Paul Whittingham, BSP's project manager on the scheme, said: "The scheme at the Blackpool development is particularly unusual because it contains no underground surface water drainage.
"Therefore, all the surface water run-off from roofs and hard-standing areas is managed above ground through a combination of ponds and ditches which take the water away from the building and allows it to dissipate into the park area beyond."
