Games Workshop has taken a hit in its year-end results as revenue slipped by more than £3m. The Nottingham-based company, which manufactures game figurines, also said pre-tax profit fell by £700,000.

Revenue for the year ending 29 May 2011 was at £123.1m, down from £126.5m the previous year. Operating profit stood at £12.8m, a £200,000 drop from 2010.

Mark Wells, chief executive officer of Games Workshop, said: "2010/11 has seen satisfactory performance, driven by improved gross margins and good cost control leading to a healthy cash inflow.

"Although sales were down in the first half, Games Workshop delivered improved results in the second half as the focus on customer service training for Hobby centre managers and investment in new product development started to feed through into results."

He added that the company was "in good shape", and said: "We know what we need to do to remain successful and to grow."
